SUMMARY:Village Nature Series: Mindful Management of Common Invasive Plants
DESCRIPTION:Invasive plants destroy crucial habitat for wildlife\, trees\, and native plants\, while simultaneously threatening and dramatically reducing biodiversity. Demonstrating a holistic approach\, Raven shares successes in mechanical removal and management of common invasive plants. In addition to dramatically reducing the amount and severity of invasive plant infestations that treat the health and viability of our land\, forests\, and waterways\, the long-term costs and consequences of the work are undeniably less severe. They serve\, rather than harm\, the overarching system that sustains life. Holistic practices improve soil and water quality\, protect and restore rapidly diminishing habitat for a host of wildlife\, increased biodiversity of plant and animal life\, and create opportunities for native plant species to rebound and thrive. Raven demonstrates that mindful management is highly effective and improves the health and viability of the land and the life that depends on it.

SUMMARY:Village Nature Series: Embracing the Dark- Light Pollution\, Health and the Environment
DESCRIPTION:For more than a century\, artificial lighting has transformed our nights—brightening our homes\, streets\, and cities. But only recently have scientists begun to fully understand the hidden costs of this constant illumination. Light pollution is now recognized as a significant factor affecting wildlife behavior\, human health\, and the balance of our environment. In this talk\, we’ll explore why natural darkness is essential—not just for ecosystems\, but for our own physical\, mental\, and emotional well-being. We’ll look at how excessive nighttime lighting disrupts sleep cycles\, impacts animals\, and alters natural rhythms that have existed for millennia. We’ll also focus on practical solutions. You’ll learn simple\, effective ways to reduce light pollution at home and in your neighborhood—strategies that can improve your health\, lower energy costs\, and help restore the night sky for everyone. \nPresenter Bio: Stephan Martin is an astronomer\, educator\, and author who helps people reconnect with the natural world through the night sky. He has taught astronomy\, physics\, and sustainability at colleges\, universities\, and learning centers for over thirty-five years\, and has worked as an instrument specialist for the Hubble Space Telescope and as Observatory Supervisor at Williams College\, where he joined global eclipse expeditions studying the solar corona. Through talks and stargazing experiences\, he invites audiences to rediscover the beauty and importance of dark skies.

SUMMARY:Groovin' on the Green- Dylan Armour
DESCRIPTION:Join us for Groovin’ on The Green featuring Dylan Armour! Fresh from the tall pines of north Georgia\, twenty-four-year-old singer-songwriter Dylan Armour is the resurrection of Southern Rock. Dylan started his musical journey in a family of musicians.  His dad\, an accomplished luthier\, built him his first guitar when he was 7.  At the ripe old age of 16 he was touring internationally with various bluegrass bands and within two years proudly found himself a SPBGMA nominee.  The fast and smooth technique he developed to pull off the endless smoking bluegrass breakdowns would prove to be his ace in the hole as he ventured into rock and the electric guitar. Dylan’s electric stage presence and meticulously crafted blend of blues and rock proves that Southern Rock has not lost its iconic relevance. \nGroovin’ on The Green is FREE and takes place rain or shine on the Commons Lawn at The Village Green. Food and beverage vendors will be available at each concert and concert-goers are welcome to bring their own picnics and coolers.
