SUMMARY:Village Nature Series: Wildlife of the Southeast-The creation of a regional field guide and what I learned along the way
DESCRIPTION:Sam is excited to join the Village Nature Series to share photographs\, stories\, and odd things he’s found in the woods while working on his field guide. He will share about finding alligator nests\, watching mother sea turtles lay eggs on the beach\, watching red wolves and black bears at the same time\, and how following a Florida panther trail led him to a Florida panther. By the end of the talk\, he will hopefully have shown you that the exploration of the natural world’s inhabitants through the lens of wildlife tracking is the best scavenger hunt you’ve ever participated in (and it never ends). \nPresenter Bio: Sam Giovanetti is a wildlife tracker\, writer\, and photographer living in Madison County\, NC. He holds a Professional Track & Sign  Certification from Tracker Certification North America. He has completed thru-hikes of the Appalachian Trail (2011)\, the Pacific Crest Trail (2017)\, and paddled the entire Suwannee River (2022).  He has worked as a teacher\, a wolf tracker\, a rabbit scat collector\, a snow shoveler\, an arborist\, and a gas station clerk. He holds a degree in biology from Appalachian State University in NC. Someone once described him as having “big raft guide energy.” To get in touch or learn more\, visit samuelgiovanetti.squarespace.com.

SUMMARY:Groovin' on the Green-The Wobblers
DESCRIPTION:We’re so excited to welcome The Wobblers back to the Commons Stage! \n\nFor over 13 years The Wobblers have been a cornerstone of the Upstate South Carolina music scene\, earning a dedicated cult following as one of the region’s most distinct and original-sounding acts. This powerhouse ensemble features a four-piece horn section\, piano\, organ\, guitar\, bass\, and drums\, delivering a high-energy performance that is as professional as it is soulful. \nTheir expansive repertoire is a dynamic mix of original compositions and eclectic\, soul-infused covers. Rooted in the spirit of New Orleans\, their sound blends brassy textures and “second line” rhythms—anchored by drummer Patrick Riley—with edgy jazz elements reminiscent of visionaries like Rahsaan Roland Kirk\, Sun Ra\, and Thelonious Monk. At any given moment\, their music might pivot to evoke the legendary songwriting of The Kinks\, The Band\, Elvis Costello\, or the indie-soul sensibilities of Dr. Dog and NRBQ. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nGroovin’ on The Green is FREE and takes place rain or shine on the Commons Lawn at The Village Green. Food and beverage vendors will be available at each concert and concert-goers are welcome to bring their own picnics and coolers. Please bring your own lawn chairs and blankets; personal tents are not allowed at Groovin’. \nGroovin’ on The Green is free and open to the public\, however\, donations are collected to directly support The Village Green\, a 501c3 nonprofit park system that relies on grants and donations to offer our programming. SUMMARY:Youth Nature Series: Building a Wild Bee Hotel by Jessica Blackburn
DESCRIPTION: Become a backyard hero in our hands-on Wild Bee Hotel Workshop! Kids will discover the secret lives of solitary bees—nature’s gentle\, super-pollinators—while building their very own wooden nesting home. \nUsing natural materials like wooden frames and hollow stems\, participants will craft a safe haven to take home and hang in their gardens. We’ll learn why bees love “tunnel” homes and how to attract these fuzzy friends to your flowers. It’s the perfect mix of crafting\, nature science\, and outdoor fun for aspiring young conservationists! \nPresenter Bio: Jessica is a Stewardship Technician at Highlands-Cashiers Land Trust and a masters student at WCU where she studies botany. Prior to moving to Cullowhee\, she worked on a trail crew in California maintaining and restoring public access properties. Currently she teaches environmental education programs for local students in the area through Kids In Nature Programming at after-school organizations. Through her deep curiosity for the natural world Jessica educates the youth on how to learn about the land they recreate on and how to create minimal impacts upon it. \nThe Village Green and Highlands-Cashiers Land Trust co-host a series of lectures each summer. Visitors and residents learn about wildlife\, habitats\, conservation\, and local cultural heritage from expert speakers in their fields! See the full program schedule here. \nAll of the Nature Series Programs\, adult and youth\, are FREE\, family-friendly\, held RAIN OR SHINE\, and no reservations are required. \nThank you to Cedar Creek Club for sponsoring the Village Nature Series!

Projects will blend traditional ecological knowledge and western science to strengthen local preparedness through policy advocacy and environmental stewardship. CNH hopes to develop a strategic plan to share with the EBCI community on how climate change might impact Tribal lands and what type of mitigation efforts might be needed in the future. \nPlease join Brett Treadway\, CNH Program Director\, in learning more about how CNH is supporting native communities through important environmental stewardship efforts. \nPresenter Bio: Brett Treadway is a citizen of the Eastern Band of the Cherokee Indians and serves as the Director of the Arts\, Language\, and Healing program\, as well as the Revitalization of Traditional Cherokee Artisan Resources (RTCAR) program for The Center for Native Health (CNH).
