SUMMARY:Village Nature Series: The History and Biology of Coyotes in North Carolina
DESCRIPTION:Description: Join wildlife biologist Justin McVey to explore the fascinating history and biology of coyotes in North Carolina. The presentation will trace coyotes’ natural migration and human-assisted expansion throughout North Carolina\, highlight coyotes’ adaptability in diverse habitats\, and debunk common myths regarding their diet and feeding behaviors.  We will discuss effective non-lethal management techniques for reducing human-coyote conflicts\, emphasizing that eradication is not a feasible or necessary solution\, and discuss why public education is essential to  manage fear and conflicts. \nPresenter Bio: Justin McVey is the mountain regional district wildlife biologist for the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission. Justin has a Bachelor of Science degree in zoology from North Carolina State University and also obtained his Master of Science in wildlife and conservation biology there studying the food habits of coyotes and red wolves in Eastern North Carolina. Justin has been employed by the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission since 2005\, holding the positions of captive cervid biologist\, wildlife technician\, permits biologist\, and the recent position of district wildlife biologist. \nPhoto Credit: N.C.
