First held in 1999, The Joy Garden Tour is an event hosted every other year as a fundraiser to support The Cashiers Village Green. Serving as the heart of the Cashiers community, this 12-acre site offers native landscaping, walking paths, a rustic pavilion, a sculpture garden, and the new Village Commons area built for events and entertainment.
Always a sellout, the Joy Garden Tour will take place on Friday, July 15, 2011. Private gardens behind closed gates will be open and available. The tour promises to excite and inspire gardeners with innovative ways to beautify as well as enhance the land. You will see vegetables growing in a unique way, a grotto-like rock face and cascading waterfalls. Every garden is unique in size, scope, and concept.
The 2011 Tour will also include noted plein air artists painting in the gardens. Their art will be available for purchase in The Village Commons shops and at a special dinner and auction to be held on the evening of July 15, 2011.
In addition to the tour of gardens and art, events include a patrons' gala, lecture and floral demonstration and shops at The Village Commons.
In 2011, the Tour will extend the hours and expand the number of garden shops offering antiques, garden related merchandise, plants, unique gifts and more. The shops will be in and around The Village Commons and be open to those who have purchased Joy Garden Tour tickets as well as the public. Come on Friday, July 15 and Saturday, July 16 for shopping, food, and fun.
On Thursday, July 14, BJ Dyer will be featured at a lecture, floral demonstration, and reception. From Denver, BJ is known for his event décor expertise, wedding designs and flare. He has presented programs for the prestigious American Institute of Floral Designers' International Symposium and currently serves on AIFD's national board. He demonstrates and lectures regularly from Maryland to Maui, sharing with delighted audiences his unique approach to creative design coupled with humor and wit.
The overwhelming success of this event ensures the future of the park and enables The Village Green and Commons to be accessible to all at no charge. Today, the park thrives, but not without the ongoing commitment of more than 275 volunteers who organize this landmark event and realize the value of our Cashiers "treasure."
