"Inspire-Educate-Challenge-Uplift"Sculpture on the Green was conceived by Marvin and Helene Gralnick. In 2005 they presented the concept of a sculpture park within The Village Green and made a generous financial contribution to make their vision a reality. Sculpture on the Green was formed and celebrated its grand opening in June 2007 with five sculptures. The parks focus is to celebrate and recognize the evolution of sculpture and represent all of the varied styles and mediums including figurative, abstract, and non-representational. In addition to adding to the Permanent Collection, Sculpture on the Green hosts a Bi-Annual Invitational Exhibition starting in summer 2008. The six month exhibit will start in June and will feature 10 national sculptors. A new program is also in development inviting both emerging and established artists to use the park, free of charge, as public exhibition space on a rotating basis.
You can stop in nearly every western North Carolina town and find parks. But the beauty of The Village Green and Sculpture on the Green set Cashiers' park apart from others in the area. In addition to visually enhancing the natural beauty of the green, the sculptures not only inspire but create a unique opportunity for dialogue and discussion. Simply put, it only adds to the once in a lifetime experience of visiting our area.
